The U.K.’s Gambling Commission has launched an investigation into the allegations. This includes probing the actions of Laura Saunders, a Conservative candidate whose attorney, Nama Zarroug, emphasized her client’s cooperation. Zarroug also criticized the media’s handling of the case, stating, “The publication of the BBC’s story is premature and is a clear infringement of Ms. Saunders’ privacy rights.”
Adding to the controversy, Sunak’s police bodyguard was arrested for allegedly betting on the election date before its official announcement. Housing minister Michael Gove commented on the situation, labeling any use of inside information for betting as “deeply wrong” and “reprehensible.”
