Supported by Iran, Yemen’s Houthi militants allege they’ve struck Israel.
Aerial and Missile Assault
Yemen’s Houthi forces have conveyed that they’ve unleashed a volley of drones and missiles upon various targets within Israel. This barrage is part of their campaign, which, as per their statements and with Iran’s backing, targets Israeli interests.
A representative of the Houthi faction indicated that this series of assaults is their third initiative to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians. Statements from the Houthi-linked Saba news outlet suggest that such offensives will persist until Israel halts its aggressive actions.
Israeli Defenses Respond
Israel’s defense forces confirm that they’ve managed to neutralize a missile launched from the vicinity of the Red Sea. Earlier, Houthi militants acknowledged firing missiles and deploying drones towards Israeli regions, indicating their intent to prolong such actions until the Gaza conflict ceases.
Support from Iran
The actions and narratives of the Houthis underscore Iran’s pivotal role as their ally, further highlighting the intricate dynamics between the ongoing Gaza conflict, the radicalized Hamas faction, and Israel. With a stronghold over major regions of northern Yemen, including its capital, Sanaa, the Houthis have previously asserted their capability to direct ballistic missiles and aerial drones at Israel.
US Naval Forces Take Action
A recent event saw a US Navy warship in the Red Sea intercept a trio of cruise missiles and an array of drones, believed to be Houthi-launched towards Israel. Additionally, there were reports of unidentified projectiles landing close to the Israel-Egypt border.
The Shadow of Iran
While Iran has consistently refuted claims of weaponizing the Houthi forces, there’s compelling evidence pointing towards their dispatch of arms, encompassing rifles, launchers, and missiles to Yemen. International analysts, Western governments, and UN authorities have identified certain confiscated weapon parts on vessels as Iranian. Since the onset of Yemen’s civil war in 2014, a UN-sanctioned arms embargo against the Houthis has been operational.
